Genre bending Japanese Rock-Electronic duo BOOM BOOM SATELLITES to release best-of album OVER AND OVER – Digital/Disc On Demand: September 14th, In-stores: October 19th, 2010 on Sony Independent Network (SIN) and announce upcoming US tour dates.

Thoroughly re-mastered and re-mixed by the members themselves, OVER AND OVER allows listeners to appreciate it as a completely new album rather than a simple compilation of pre-existing tracks, 6 of which were never before available in America. Featuring 17-tracks that span over 6 Albums and 3 EPs, OVER AND OVER is the duo’s first US released best-of album.

Absorbing both electronic and rock elements, Tokyo’s BOOM BOOM SATELLITES created a completely new and unknown sound; a sound that NME stated was “like The Prodigy fighting Underworld with bloody big sticks.” This sound not only established them as an exciting new band, but also boosted their profile as one of the most distinguished music producers in Japan.

The brain child of Bassist/programmer Masayuki Nakano and guitarist/vocalist Michiyuki Kawashima, BOOM BOOM SATELLITES have been combining distortion-drenched rock and punk guitars, with electronic dance music and heavy jazz elements to constantly evolve and refine their innovative sound over the last decade.

This will come off the heels of their Japan 2010 Tour which featured them on the main stage of the legendary Fuji Rock Festival, alongside Massive Attack and Atoms For Peace, and above Vampire Weekend and Donavan Frankenreiter. Their bombastic three-piece live show featuring female drummer Yoko Fukuda is not to be missed.

It’s not only music fans who are captivated with their mind blowing live performances, their music has also caught the attention of prominent anime film creators and Hollywood motion picture producers.A number of tracks from the group’s album, Full of Elevating Pleasures, contributed to the soundtrack of the CGI anime film Appleseed. “Easy Action” was included on the soundtrack of the mammoth anime film Vexille. Their tracks “Scatterin’ Monkey” and “4 A Moment of Silence” from their first album Out Loud, were featured in the film The Dark Knight and “Shut Up And Explode” became the opening theme song for the PlayStation Store exclusive and later television anime series Xam’d: Lost Memories.

I was in a London pub for Open Mic Night the first time I witnessed, the actor/singer/songwriter/musician, Robert Pattinson’s craft. His voice immediately screams out old soul and becomes one with his guitar. This isn’t the first time that I have heard of Pattinson; he has shown that he has the ability to do anything he sets his mind to, when he played King Gunther’s and Princess Kriemhild’s young brother, Giselher ,in the fantasy film and mini-series ‘Ring Of The Nibelungs in 2004; based on the Germanic epic poem Nibelungenlied.

Pattinson’s songs feature impressive guitar playing and strong vocal tonality. The song “I Was Broken” composed by singer/songwriter/musician, Marcus Foster, gives a strong impression of an old-school blues-indie sound but quickly becomes a gospel influence. Which Pattinson lays it down and bares his soul out to the world, by the midst of the song, practically everyone in the audience was near tears.

Robert has such a compelling Jonny Lang, Van Morrison, and Jeff Buckley vocal blend; more-so in the smoky, rough-edged song, “To Roam”. He doesn’t just play the guitar, the music; he becomes the music, the guitar; it all connects as one. He states, “In Your Head” is about his friend’s father; such deep compassion, it is what true soulful music is all about. I loved this song …among the others.

In interviews, he states that music is a back-up career plan if acting fails, I personally think his acting career is not going to fail and neither will his music. He has an enormous chance of making a successful career in music; I truly hope he continues with both passions. Pattinson has something that I haven’t heard from an Indie Folk musician in quite some time.

Determined not to be held to the typical restraints of a particular genre, Oregon’s Acoustic Rock singer/songwriter and musician, Russell Stafford breaks free once again and goes ever more diverse with his latest album, Between U & I. The album begins with the catchy track “Girl Like You”, Stafford displaying a raspy vocal blending well with driven guitars and drums. The second track is the cool hook sounds of “Back To You”, appealing vocals, pleasant melodies are…priceless, everything flows just right; well structured with the chorus; this song has full potential of becoming a soundtrack for sure as any song on the album.

Stafford admits to writing the powerful-attitude song “Every Time I Come Down”, out of frustration of being expected to writing the same type of songs. He definitely shows that frustration and blasts it out of the water and into your face. The track hits out of the gate with aggressive guitar riffs followed by Stafford’s strong vocals, the chorus is a perfect fit, the emotions in the track are solid.

What truly amazes me is every time I hear Stafford his ability to remain true vocal, he keeps to the essentials; it is the right way to producing exceptional albums. Between U & I was just recently released and already…I can’t wait for the next album which I already know it will be another brilliant masterpiece.

People endure the hustle and bustle of a chaotic world every day, 24/7; at the end of the day wouldn’t it be great to escape and let your mind drift into a peaceful break. Canadian instrumentalist guitarist, Scott Kroeker ‘s, music can take your mind into that relax-full journey with his 2006 album, ‘Fata Morgana’. There are fourteen tracks, each flows smoothly into each other; offering spiritual, uplifting harmony.

Kroeker definitely has the powerful melodies and grooves happening, each track travels down deep into your soul; without lyrics the melody are more intensified; truly feeling each melody and its story.

Kroeker in ’92 started a hard rock band, Sound Rage, after a delightful run the band broke up, years later reuniting only to call it quit perhaps indefinitely. It was at that time, Kroeker decided to begin work on his goal of doing something solo.

Listeners admit to fast-forwarding over to their favourite tracks, seriously there is not a single track you would want to fast-forward over; honestly each track is my favourite. Though one of my favourites is “Angel In Ice”, an uniquely somber track that builds into much more with the accompanying electric guitar; staying in the fill of early ‘70’s Don Henley influences; it tells a story of despair and loneliness that soon fades into hopefulness. Kroeker wails it on the song “Panhead Blues” digging deep into the heart of the Blues but adding a mixture of rock and jazz with a twist of prevailing hard rock creates an unique sound that one will not be able to get out of their heads, not that one would want to. The song “Liquid Dream State” is like a conclusion or spin-off of the pervious song “Panhead Blues” only much more intense with slamming electric guitars playing along smooth relaxed drums.

Recommended tracks: “Angel In Ice”, “La Atmosfera”, “Panhead Blues”, “Liquid Dream State”, and “Transparent”.

I discovered Dommin, a Californian band, via a myspace request; after listening to one song; I was hooked into wanting more. Dommin’s album, “Mend Your Misery” explodes with heart-striking lyrics, totally mind-blowing talent each member gives in this album. The album starts with a powerful embraced track “My Heart, Your Hands” superb creativity, these guys took Cathedral bells with percussion harpsichords and added gothic soul and blasted this song to the masses; everything ties in extremely well.

Dommin shows his deepest, darkest, and creepiest vocal-side in “Drama Days” while keeping an elegant ‘Putting on the Ritz’ technique present in the riffs. However, one can’t get anymore creepier or haunting than the “Untitled track” which starts with a chilling ghost choir with monstrous piano. It’s back to the deepest, heart-wrenching soul in ‘I Still Lost” this song isn’t far from a tear-jerker moment.

Recommended tracks: “My Heart, Your Hands”, “Tonight”, “Drama Days”, “The Scene”.

I adore moments when I’m just surfing for something refreshing to entice my musical taste buds, it is like I am a little boy at Christmas when I found a band who sparks those intense flavours of music; the kind one expects to hear from a musician. Surfing on another band’s site, I discovered this Californian singer/songwriter/musician, Kiyoshi Graves and his amazing works; one being his 2006 album “Chase”. There are 10 outstanding tracks, each telling a story of dreams, life, heartbreak and soul-seeking adventures.

I beyond doubt found myself in the majority of this album, “Everything” I could not get enough of this song; I seriously got it as it brought sad memories all flowing back but as Graves states for this track “born of many rejection …strangely enough it’s turned into one of the funner songs we play…” powerful, hard-driven guitars and drums evened out well with Graves genuine vocals.

“So Much More”, true goose bumps of High School, it is like this – have you ever met someone you truly thought you would like, and by looking at their face you knew you had a lot of things in common with this person. You find yourself laying wide awake at night thinking about the person, you think of things to say, to talk about but when you come face to face with the person, you freeze worse than the Antarctic ; here is a song that expresses it with lively guitars, prompt jazzy drums, and Graves uplifting passionate vocals.

The poppy-rock track, “Found” is highly refreshing at first start; Graves starts with what I call a poppy-pause tempo mixed with power-attitude guitars and drums; instantly my fingers started snapping and my head began to rock side to side and bop up and down.

This album is a true anthem of life album, inspiring and butt-kicking; as Graves quotes in his bio “Chase is the beginning of my journey into realizing what I am capable of, what is possible and how I might realize my true potential. It’s a statement that we don’t have to settle – that we can pursue our dreams and ambitions without compromise. People may try to tear us down, either consciously or unconsciously, but we can rise above that. The album is a collection of songs that I want to inspire action and give hope to those that hear it.” Well he succeeded well; he found his true potential and most definitely inspired me to the masses.

Recommended tracks: “Reckoning”, “Everything”, “Identify”, “So Much More”, “Found”.

Keram Malicki-Sanchez never ceases to amaze me, with every album or single; his music is constantly improving. Good, better, best; never let it rest until your good is better and your better is best…well Malicki-Sanchez can’t get any better, he has succeeded the best. Malicki-Sanchez’s album, “Box”, is packed with intensely warm-hearted harmonies, rich vocals, and passionate guitars and piano.

Keeping it to the true Acoustic genre, Malicki-Sanchez keeps it to the bare essentials; no additional effects were placed; allowing his voice and minimal instruments to flow through. The first track on the album is “fascinating”, a laid back soft-spoken rock/folk song; with engrossed vocals which immediately makes my head sway the moment the track begins.

Honestly, my ultimate favourite is “forget it, kid.” Malicki-Sanchez vocals break into this folksy-pop mood and sets emotions free; it just pops to my ears. The one track that is thinking outside of the box is, “OUT OF the box”, with its poetic space odyssey symphony; suddenly, I felt like I was drafting.

“blue VALENTINES” Malicki-Sanchez wails into the heart-set blues/jazz and nails this song perfectly. I can picture being in a crowded smoke filled nightclub, it’s late, things are settling down, and there is a young singer on stage spilling his problems out in a song. People sitting about start to take notice and nod their heads in agreement, almost like saying Amen brother, sing it! Sing it indeed he did.

Recently I discovered this Austrian band, Dust Covered Carpet. More bands are making the change to explore different instruments; the results are extremely fascinating to say the least. Dust Covered Carpet incorporates glockenspiels with clarinets and flutes along with the ordinary guitars and drums. One would think this is impossible to accomplish a descent tune worth listening to… how wrong you would be to think it. Dust Covered Carpet’s music by far is amazing to be called the new 21st century music for Folk Pop genres. Back in the early 60’s and 70s, this genre was experimented and it was a hit among the young culture, filled with peace, love, mind-harmony, emotional reservations, and fellow-friendship. By the mid to later 80′s, it ran out of energy only to regain its power and be reborn in the millennium, a revamped Hippie Psychedelic.

I for one am a fan of Industrial, Industrial-Rock and Gothic Rock and I found myself adding Folk Pop to my list of favourable likes. When I first heard the track “You’ll See”, it was like a musical explosive of hip, pop, folk on a twist; the album is filled with many different feelings, exceedingly powerful. ‘You’ll See’, is an excellent ‘hey wake up and look around’ song; filled with transverse flutes, accordion and drums the flutes adds a special touch to the song.

‘Poison City’ like the other tracks on this album; it merges the previous 70’s and adds a modern touch (I suppose the best way to explain it) of what hippie folk would appear to be in today’s world. Throughout some of the tracks, I did detect Connor Oberst’s songwriting techniques… astounding!

‘Picture Of The Late Fall Sun’ sun-drenched beach with a young love wanting to spread his love to his long-life love only to be lost in the sands, waiting for; one day, to be discovered and hopefully hearts’ love will join in harmony for an everlasting journey.

Dust Covered Carpet music has something to offer all music genres…get in a lull spot in your mind and just listen.

‘The Cause’ is the first track off the Canada band, BROOMFILLER’s CD album ‘Enter The Storm’, such an influential track viewing the title track’s video only makes the song much more powerful. Leal vocalist and guitarist, Richard D. Leko, is an accomplished musician; fans will definitely be pumped watching the video; great way of further connecting with the band …sort-of-speak.

The video was filmed in a local park. Some bands videos tend to get lost in translation with the various story-telling effects BROOMFILLER keeps it straightforward, keeping all unnecessary effects out; making the video look like as if you were in the park enjoying a concert on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

The band comes alive, keeping the viewers eyes glued to the screen, Leko makes immense eye connect with nearby cameras…splendid way of grabbing attention to the viewers. The drum shots are by far the coolest, a pleasure for this old part-time drummer. On added note-, some video directors tend to over do the spin points, not BROOMFILLER; the spin points were on the mark, excellent!

If I had to describe this video with one word, it would be “classic”!

Enter The Storm is the latest full-length album for this the Canadian band, This 16-track album is filled with uplifting bass and guitars, pumped vocals with trouncing drums which was all written and performed by Leko. The album follows the popular “Watching The Girls Go Bi” which took the US College radio stations by storm; I see no problem with a repeat performance.

Leko changes it up for this album; it is the same Richard Leko skills only slightly semi-edged out. It’s more Foo Fighters with a blend of Nirvana and a side dish of twisted Depeche Mode. Clearly one can hear it in “Control” raw vocals, mellow-savvy guitars and b-kicking drums.

The eye-turn on is “You Can Have It All”, Leko shows his more mellowed side well as mellow as one can get. Still the heaviness of the drums and guitars play throughout this track however, lyrically it’s a soothing the beast combination. As well as with the track “Motorcade” with an old plimpy 70’s guitar feel (only guitarists know that phrase) “Motorcade was a pleasant experience, perfect timing on the drum chorus, Leko vocals are on key, still utmost rawness but they don’t over power this track. “Back Down” has a System of the Down feel at the starting gate after that, it goes to left field in a good way. The drum-bass are on the money, added note – I think Animal from The Muppets joined the band and is jamming on the drums (yes, Animal is a cool drummer).

Of course knowing BROOMFILLER, they always (in most cases) have a bonus track…a teaser for the fans. Just when you think it is over the thunder kicks in more and the storm ‘enters’ with roaring Tokyo Drift drums, fiery guitars soaks everything in sight, as quickly as it began it ends, the skies open up and the drums and guitar begin to sing as to birds do after the passing of the rain.
